Music Linky Comin' Up!

Gambar
So I have noticed that there are not enough Music teacher bloggers! That means it's extra important that we stay connected! I am starting a weekly Linky Party where I want YOU to link up and share! It's called 2/4 Tuesdays! On Tuesday, link up a blog post from your blog that shows 2-4 things you are doing (or planning on doing) in your Music room. Easy!  I'm going to give it a go on Tuesday! It would be awesome if you linked up! It's a great way to get people to check out your blog too! Just write a post as you would and link to our party! Let's stay connected! Get ready for Tuesday and I will have simple clear instructions then on how to link up!

DIY: 3/4 Practise Using Ice Cube Trays!

So, instead of doing something that would prepare me for the first week of school... I decided to work on a little project for centres. Oh well! Here it is: Ice Cube Tray Rhythms This is yet another idea inspired by classroom teachers! Ice cube trays are often used for ten frame math work and I thought, "Hey! I want to come up with an idea using them for the Music room!" I went to Dollarama and found something even better: An ice cube tray divided in groups of THREE! I immediately thought it could be used for practising 3/4 metre. And it's blue! Yay! I also grabbed small white circular sticker labels. And I picked up a few baggies of glass stones. Once I was back home, I got started.  Using a black pen, I wrote rhythms on the STICKY side of the stickers.  Next, I stuck those guys to the flat bottom of the stones. And voila! All ready for the kids to practise working with rhythms in 3/4! And now maybe on to doing something that will prepare me for next week!

Connecting with Students through Summer Stories!

Gambar
My husband and I just returned from an amazing trip to Europe! We spent three weeks visiting friends, family and new places. I thought I would connect vacay to school stuff in this post! For me, making meaningful connections with my students is the most important element as an effective and engaging educator. Listening to stories and sharing my own stories and experiences helps my students see me as a real person. These moments really build on the essential relationships with my students.  I have made a vacation highlight list to share with my students as well as some photos from my trip! I have included musical and personal connections for each of the cities. I will expand on the musical information when I discuss with my students.  PRAGUE Personal: Prague is on of my favourite cities! My favourite place is the Charles Bridge with all of the buskers, artists, vendors and the beautiful Vlatava River that flows through Prague's centre. Musical: Czech composer Antonin Dvorak liv...
